Blog For Equality

Tomorrow, with very little fanfare, the Pennsylvania State Senate Judiciary Committee is voting on Senate Bill 707:
A Joint Resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, providing for marriage between one man and one woman.
Area State Senators Jane Orie, Wayne D. Fontana, and Jay Costa are on the Judiciary Committee. Please contact them and spread the word that this amendment is a pathetic waste of time and discriminatory to our fellow GLBT Pennsylvania residents.

As Philly.com says:
How about a constitutional amendment to require lawmakers to pass a budget on time? Or to shrink the size and cost of the Legislature? How about updating the state's antiquated tax code or campaign finance reform? All of these would be better than a constitutional amendment about gay marriage.

Gah, this really gets my blood boiling. Especially after reading the Philly.com article where it says gay marriage isn't even legal. What a waste of time.

Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm sorry, I thought constitutions were supposed to protect the rights and liberties of the people, not discriminate against them.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I work in the same building as Senator Orie's office. Time for a little visit.

Thank you for participating in the Blog for Equality project. And, Ben, please do share what Orie's people tell you ...
